Congratulations Kenan Pullings from Hancock County as SOWV’s Outstanding Individual for August 2020!
Kenan lives in Weirton, WV and has been competing in various sports with SOWV for the past 2 years. He goes to Weir High School and he is employed by Hancock Co Workshop. He loves basketball season and enjoys playing the game, with Lebron James being his favorite player. He likes cheeseburgers and Pepsi, enjoys playing with dogs and watching Star Wars.
Kenan is described by his coaches and volunteers as having, “so much team spirit”. He started competing in Special Olympics as a football athlete 2 years ago. He is always encouraging his teammates, often with the loudest voice on the team, and gives his best effort every practice and game.
Brenda Ocobock, Special Olympics Hancock County Local Program Director, shared a time where Kenan was at an awards ceremony and all of his teammates had received recognition for individual skills in basketball, except for him. He sat with his head down, but then to his surprise, he was announced as being the gold medal winner! All of his teammates chanted “Go Kenan”. He jumped up and began to run up and down the bleachers and around the court with his arms in the air like “Rocky”. Volunteers, Fans in the Stands, including his mother were all crying tears of joy! Everyone could see how much this award meant to Kenan. Brenda says he was still wearing his gold medal the following week!
Because of Kenan’s enthusiasm and support for his teammates, we recognize him as our Outstanding Individual for this month.
