Special Olympics WV Polar Plunges are known throughout the state as being anything but boring!!
Where else can you jump in a cold pool or lake in the middle of winter for a good cause?
Polar Plunges are Special Olympics WV’s largest fundraising activity! And it’s all because of YOU! You who brave the cold, snow and ice for the over 4,400 athletes in WV!
Proceeds raised go to help provide year-round sports training and competition for thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities. Your contribution and involvement help athletes achieve their goals, live healthier lives, and have a sense of inclusion in the community.

Each participant must raise a minimum of $50 for the privilege to plunge. This is a fundraiser – and there are prizes for the most money raised, so don’t stop there!
Use this Pledge Form to capture your pledges and bring with you. Supporters can also donate online.
Everyone must sign a Polar Plunge Waiver. If you are under the age of 18, you must have the Release Form signed by your parent or guardian.
For those locations using a pool, participants will enter the pool two at a time (you may jump off a pool ladder or slowly climb down the ladder). Participants exit the other side of the pool. The pool is 4 ½ feet deep.
For those locations using a river, you will enter the water up to four at time by going down a boat ramp.
Participants may stay in the water for as long as they prefer, within established safety guidelines (although almost everyone exits very quickly!)
No Diving permitted.
Attire: Swimsuit or shorts (with t-shirt if you prefer). No wetsuits.
Costumes are encouraged for those who want to provide some entertainment (and maybe win a prize!)
Bring a robe or jacket… great to have while waiting to plunge.
Don’t forget your towel!
Shoes to wear while waiting in line as your feet may get cold. If plunging at a location using a river, it is highly recommended that you wear shoes at all times.
Everyone will have access to a changing area immediately following their plunge, so bring a towel and extra clothing.
Arrive early to register and avoid the lines.
Be ready for a memorable experience!
